Hand crafted gifts bring us
back to the spirit of this wonderful holiday season. Scarves are quick
work that yield big results in less time than finding that elusive parking
space at the mall. A few lengths of fabric and purchased beaded fringe
result in beautiful one of a kind (or 2 of a kind) neckwear that says so
much in a warm and thoughtful way. |

boots and slim pants or skirts to complete the "right now" look.

The mood for fall dressing is soft, drapey, and
relaxed. In other words, velvet, especially stretch velvet, is key. It’s
glam, feels great to wear, and has romance appeal. What other fabric can
do all that? What is also nice is the versatility. Dress it down as a wrap
top with your favorite jeans, funk it up with hot color and wear it as a
comfy scarf with your fav jacket, or swish it around as a romantic skirt
or soft flounced romantic femme fatale top. |

You don't need a detector to find metals out there in the marketplace this
season. You can find their influences everywhere! From weighty chains,
grommets and buckles on accessories to the mating of the shiny stuff
with fabric in chenilles, brocades, sheers, knits and even laminated
onto cottons, the current craze of Europe. See Celebutante in

It's an Urban Jungle…Trending hot this season are
animal prints. Whether the print is the focus of your garment or an
eye-catching trim, you'll want to find a way to integrate this into your
wardrobe this fall. We’re seeing woven and knit dresses and tops,
jackets, cardigans with printed panels, peek-a-boo pleated or gored skirts
and softly structured tops with contrast facings. And then, of course, the
ultimate in lingerie and loungewear.

Ooh-la-la! Silk lingerie is so pretty and really
quite simple to create. Whether you go for a camisole, a nightie or boy
shorts, silk charmeuse is the fabric of choice! Printed silks are
fun and exciting; solids are elegant. We have both for you!

Summer 2007 is definitely flirty and feminine
with skirts replacing shorts in many venues! Whether you choose prints or
solids, be sure you use a fabric with drape--Silk prints, chiffon or
georgette with underskirts, cotton lawn. For a more structured silhouette,
try a multi-gore skirt in cotton satin print or solid linen. Make it short
and flirty or long and elegant.

Tip toe in with just a
bit in a print or go head to toe in a suit. You’ll love this purplish pink
color for statement dressing.
Right now we have an
absolutely stunning viscose/linen texture,
Flamenco, in stock. Our silk chiffon burnout is dramatic in black and
fuchsia--Masquerade.
If you can’t get yourself to fuchsia, consider a hot pink or a deep orchid
to simulate the trend. The pinstripe in
Suit Yourself is actually orchid, but it works with fuchsia
coordinates as well.
Just a touch of purplish pink will update a basic
outfit! |

Black and White never gets old, and it's fresh as can be this
summer!! The high contrast can be interpreted in a number of different
ways depending on how you wear black and white best. All black with a
band of white or the opposite, prints with black/white designs, white dots
on black or black dots on white, opposing tops and bottoms, all white suit
with black top and shoes, or try this embroidered duo for some fun mix and
match.

| Crazy for Paisley |
|
Paisleys never quite go away but some
years they emerge as THE motif of the season. This is one of those
years! Use the paisley print reservedly for the best fashion impact.
|
|
 |
|
Flowing skirts with solid tees, cuffs
and collars to accent solids and textures, and blocked wearable art are
some suggestions to follow. Sometimes the print is all paisleys swirling around one another in a
colorful mélange such as
Carousel or the paisley is the centerpiece motif in an otherwise
floral print such as
Merengue.
Then there’s the retro swirl as an interpretation of a
paisley such as Pandora. For a subtle interpretation of the trend, you can
choose a tone on tone woven paisley such as
Dowry.

| Soft and flowing, georgette is a semi-sheer fabric that is reigning supreme in the marketplace right now. Since ruffles are here to stay this spring, you’ll see lots of soft, drapeable prints that fall gently into ribbons (flounces) down the front of dresses and blouses or peak out from beneath straight or a-line skirt to make a subtle but flirtatious statement. For semi-sheer prints, see
Effervescence, and look for Spright next week. |

| Sporty |
|
From flowing and feminine we switch to everyday sporty. This trend is
evident throughout the ready-to-wear collections this spring. |
|
 |
You’ll see lots of zip front hoodies, yoga pants,
sneakers and gym bags. The trick is not to wear it all in one outfit! We
have lightweight French terry in black, white and Cerulean blue. If you
love hoodies, make up several and team them with jeans, shorts or skirts
made from stretch denim or khaki. If you like wearing yoga pants, try
pairing them with a knit tank in one of the great colors we have in our
knit department. Whatever you choose, mix and match colors and textures
rather than wearing it head to toe (aka sweatsuit).

| You’ll be
hearing a lot about metallics this season. Silver will be key, but gold,
bronze and copper all play a role. We found this little gem in the
marketplace that combines the metallic trend with the ever-popular cotton
eyelet! (click the pic to find the product.) Think tiered skirts with
black or colorful tee tops, or use it for a bolero style jacket to top a
basic black knit dress. For more metallics, shop our web store for
Metallurgy, That 70’s Shirt, or
Chakkri. |

| Artful Ombre |
|
Dipped dyed fabric is a real eye-catcher in any
fabrication. The color gradient, generally moving from dark to light,
softens the look of a solid, but does not have the complexity of a print
or texture. For details, click the pic. |

Our resident designer,
Evelyn Bash,
helped us with some ideas to bring out the designer in you. A full
skirt gathered to a waistband will allow the color flow to cascade in
gentle stripes. Railroading the fabric so the crosswise becomes the
lengthwise will display the full ombre effect if you choose a long skirt
or dress. Using the fabric on the bias results in a delicious color
flow on an angle. We think layered skirts or layered ruffles will maximize
the allure of the ombre color flow. According to Evelyn,
“the key is finding
garments that have layers and pieces that overlap each
other.” |
